The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre (QEIICC), London’s prestigious purpose-built venue in the heart of Westminster, has created a new role of audio visual and IT sales manager for Deborah Jones MBA.
In her new position Deborah will be offering clients advice on audio-visual design concepts and the how to best make use of the Centre’s space. She will also be able to guide clients on how to budget for audio visual and IT equipment and labour. The role also covers responsibility for promoting and selling the Centre’s full complement of IT services and equipment from cafĂ© pods and plasmas for exhibitions through to printers and faxes for event support services.
Deborah has worked as a project manager for the audio visual team at the Centre for the past nine years, planning and managing the technical specifications and requirements across the extensive client portfolio. She has spent her whole working life in the events and meetings industry, gaining an MBA along the way.
She was attracted to the audio-visual arena as it is the fastest moving and most technical aspect of event management and requires a constant skills update. She also enjoys the client liaison aspect of the job as AV staff spend a larger proportion of their time working on site and get to see tangible results of their input in the events they help produce.
Prior to joining The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Deborah worked for the commercial arm of a charity organisation, The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, where she established the events unit. She has also worked for the publishers, Macmillan, where she was responsible for organising events as part of the promotional strategy for the magazine portfolio.
Derek Chalmers, the Centre’s production manager, said of the appointment: “We have found that in recent years our clients have demanded the latest state-of-the-art audio/visual and IT facilities to support their events. The QEII, due to its advanced technological infrastructure and the experience and professionalism of the technical team, has a strong competitive advantage. I created Deborah’s new role to develop our potential and build on our strength and reputation in this field. Having someone in a pivotal role, with both operational and commercial responsibilities is vital for our customer service and for our continued growth”.
