Prestigious Teaching Awards Ceremony

The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London was chosen to host the prestigious Teaching Awards 2003 Regional Ceremony for London which took place last month on Monday 16th June.

The event was hosted by BBC personality Vanessa Feltz and attended by Greg Dyke, Director General of the BBC, Damian Green MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Education and Skills and Stephen Twigg MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools.

The Teaching Awards ceremony was held in the Mountbatten Room at The QEII Conference Centre which offers theatre-style seating for 300 people. Following her address, Vanessa Feltz broadcast her radio programme live from The QEIICC for BBC Radio London.

London’s most inspiring and remarkable headteachers, teachers and teaching assistants were honoured with Teaching Awards. This is the fifth year of the Teaching Awards, but the first time teachers and teaching assistants from the area have been recognised in a dedicated London Ceremony.

Said Sarah Davey, Project Co-ordinator, The Teaching Awards Trust: “The main reason for choosing The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre was that it could accommodate workshops, our prestigious Awards Ceremony and a drinks reception for 300, all in one contained area.”

“The Centre also added to the gravitas of the event and its unique location meant it was the perfect venue to launch our first Teaching Awards Ceremony for London. The technical staff helped us adapt our set to suit the venue with maximum impact and also helped arrange an outside broadcast by Vanessa Feltz, the host of the Ceremony, on BBC Radio 94.9FM.”

Stephen Norcliffe, Commercial Director, The QEII Conference Centre, said “We tend to think of every event as being special to us but to act as host for such an important and deserving ceremony gave us great satisfaction. We are looking forward to the next event.”

The QEII Conference Centre is a premier purpose-built venue in a prestigious location in the heart of London. It is uniquely situated against the stunning backdrop of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, The Houses of Parliament and The London Eye.
