On 27th November 2009, the Centre hosted its latest Masterclass: Sustainability in the Events Industry and welcomed more than 40 delegates from across the conference and events industry.
As usual, the session addressed a number of different areas, from identifying sustainability issues and how to take the first steps with BS 8901 to sustainability policy and practice when organising events. Particular highlights included the event timeline, the introduction to sustainability and the event management ‘bible’.

The session was led by Charlie Banks, Event Manager at Organise This, a company specialising in sustainable event management. Charlie has provided BS8901 training, consultancy and event management for many organisations including: The Christian Blind Mission, Global Reporting Initiative and the IUHPE conference.
Motti Essakow, Natural Capitalist and founder of Omward Bound specialises in the development and implementation of responsible business programmes and strategies in the hospitality sector. Clients have included Radisson Edwardian Hotels and Six Senses Resorts and Spas.
Charles Perkin has been in the Events Industry for over 11 years. Currently an Events Manager at CIRIA, a not for profit association, Charlie helps manage a programme of 120-150 events a year. Charlie shared his experiences and provided sound advice on sustainability policy and practice when organising events.
