I joined the meetings, exhibitions and events industry at the time of the last ‘big’ financial upset in the mid 1970s. It was as tough then as it is now. But then – as will certainly be the case again – we succeeded in filling our venues and creating new events of all descriptions.

In two weeks time I officially graduate from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts with a BA (hons) in Theatre Performance Technology. So to already be working at The QEIICC is quite an achievement.
As an AV Technician I work as part of the Interface team to set up and run lighting, sound and data for the many conferences and events we hold here.
The eagerly awaited MPI Young Achievers Award returned to The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre on 06 June 2011. Paul Cook, the creator of the competition and MC for the evening gives us his account of the evening:
Now in its second year, you could almost touch the atmosphere. It was electric. Even the students were excited but wow the competition between the various lecturers is something to see.

The Annual Conference Awards will be held at The QEIICC on Friday this week. Sue Etherington, Commercial Director discusses commercial conferences and their importance to the industry.
Commercial conferences are classed as events which generate revenue either through delegate fees or sponsorship. Over 15 percent of events held at The QEIICC last year were commercial conferences, and we estimate that they brought over £1 million to the Centre.
